It’s Hanke Time
Bud Frump himself riffs on Daniel and assorted goodies in this broadway.com interview. (Hit MORE to finish the piece.)
BTW, I never understood a section of lyrics in Frump’s part of Company Way until I looked them up. Here they are:
We know the company may like or lump any man,
And if they choose to the company may dump any man;
But they will never dump Frump, the company man.
Frump will play it the company
Frump will play it the company,
Frump will play it the company way!

What’s Up, Christopher J. Hanke? The How to Succeed Star on Daniel Radcliffe’s Stamina, Finch vs. Frump and Why He Loves L.A.
Interviews By Kathy Henderson September 2, 2011
Broadway.com readers love How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying star Christopher J. Hanke, host of our popular Frump Tower vlog and top vote-getter in a recent poll asking which Broadway star you’d like to take to the beach. We figured that the dog days of summer would be a great time to chat with Hanke about why he feels at ease playing comic villain Bud Frump and how he sees his career unfolding after he and co-star Daniel Radcliffe leave the show.
You’ve spent your summer in a bona fide Broadway hit…
I know! If you look at my resume, I’ve never really been in one. The people at Rent will get mad, but that was already running when I came in, so this is my first time with a new hit show. It’s still a lot of fun to come to work.
How did Daniel Radcliffe cope with all the Harry Potter hoopla while doing eight shows a week?
No Hard Feelings, Mate

"All's forgiven, V." Harry and Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) yuk it up at the premiere along with Hermione (Emma Watson), Ron (Rupert Grint) and Draco (Tom Felton).
The World Premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was held last night (July 7) in London. Major cast members were there to give a royal send off to the Harry Potter series of films, the most successful franchise in movie history.
As we stated earlier, H2S is dark until Saturday evening to accommodate Daniel’s promotional duties for the film.
H2S Dark Part of This Week
As Pottermania cranks up for the last time, H2S will be dark on Thursday and Friday, and Saturday matinee this week so Daniel can attend the world premiere in London of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. Apparently Warner Bros. originally wanted Daniel for an entire week of publicity but that didn’t sit too well with H2S’s producers.
Tammy on Tammy
Tonys 2011: Nominee Tammy Blanchard on ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ and, of course, Daniel Radcliffe
by Aubry D’Arminio
Entertainment Weekly, June 7, 2011
She’s gorgeous and talented — with one Emmy win and two Tony nods under her belt — but How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’s Tammy Blanchard isn’t exactly a famous face. Yet. The Best Featured Actress in a Musical contender recently called EW to chat about feeling born in the wrong decade (she earned her Emmy for playing Judy Garland in Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows and scored her first Tony nomination for Gypsy), living in Jersey, and being constantly asked about Daniel Radcliffe.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You once said that you’d be a bigger star if it were the 1940s or 1950s.
TAMMY BLANCHARD: I’m really good at playing women from that time. Judy Garland and Gypsy Rose Lee are just examples. I just feel like I would have latched onto some big studio. I would have had the five films in a row to prove myself. It just seems like once you got in the door back in the day, it was somehow a little easier once you proved that you were talented. And I have the facial structure. Once they put the old Hollywood hair on me, I could be stepping right out of the ’50s or ’60s.
Did you do the full 60s makeup and ‘do for your How to Succeed audition?
A Non-HP Fan Loves Daniel in H2S
This fan-authored piece from the Internet caught our eye. Although the writing is at times quirky (to say the least), it does express some interesting observations about Daniel and his H2S performance. (This is exactly how the piece appeared. Obviously, we made no editing changes.) Be sure to hit MORE to read the entire piece.
A NON-FAN OF THE HP SERIES GOES FROM A DANIEL RADCLIFFE BAITER TO A DANIEL RADCLIFFE ADMIRER IN TWO HOURS AT BROADWAY
First, a disclaimer. I am not a Harry Potter fan. By extension, I am not a Daniel Radcliffe fan. Come on, you can’t be the first and not be the second. And if you are the second, you are the first at some level. I am neither.

As he took the bows at the curtain call, a broad smile flashed across the face of the actor. A smile that could translate as: “Yeah, it’s me Daniel Radcliffe.” Not Harry Potter. (Photo: Joe Corrigan/Getty Images)
I read the first book, admired the imagination of Madam Rowling but just couldn’t stop wondering why it was so incredibly popular. I thought it must be the age. But then fathers, mothers, kakas, jethimas, everyone around seemed helplessly hooked to the antics of the Boy Wizard and for all you know secretly trying those magic spells in the bathroom. Dipankar De was reading it in Titli… goddammit!
“Chinese Takeout for Mr. Radcliffe”
MTV Movie Awards host Jason Sudeikis has a Chinese takeout for Daniel in this funny promo for the award show.
Take That, Ben Brantley. Astaire Calls Our Daniel.
Ben Brantley, chief drama critic of the New York Times, said the following in his snarky and pretty much discredited review of H2S:
“Instead of teaching some unlikely, nondancing celebrities to do the cha-cha, you train them to star in a big Broadway musical, with fancy sets and chorus lines. It could be called ‘Singing, Dancing and Acting With the Stars — on Broadway (With Fancy Sets and Chorus Lines).’
“O.K., maybe the title needs work. But if you want to see a prototype for an entry in this series, take a look at the new production of “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” which opened on Sunday night at the Al Hirschfeld Theater. Its leading man is Daniel Radcliffe, the little wizard that could from the Harry Potter movies; and while Mr. Radcliffe is clearly not to the musical manner born, I would give him, oh, a 6 out of 10.”
Well, wouldn’t-ya-know — our Daniel has been nominated for an ASTAIRE AWARD! Yep, that’s right. Mr. Six of Ten musical performer has garnered a 2011 nomination for Male Dancer, Broadway. It represents “excellence” in dance and is a big deal in musical theater circles.
Maybe a short refresher course in How to Review Musicals is in order for Mr. B.B. Couldn’t hurt.
Hermione and Harry, Together Again
Emma Watson, Hermione in Harry Potter, visited her old Hogwarts buddy Daniel backstage at H2S. Did we hear strains of I Believe in You coming from the room?

The Weasley family and the family goblin banker from Harry Potter paid a call on Daniel to cheer him on in H2S.
